The more things change, the more they change.

Well, it's my first check in of the new year, and there have been some MAJOR changes in my plan.

Injuries, work travel, and lack of ability to control my appetite :-) have pretty much ruled out building up to run a marathon distance by May 2012. BUT, alternate plans have been laid:

Remember this? This was my first 5K back in Thanksgiving 2011. Starting with me on the left, it was my brother Ray, their friend Mark, my sister-in-law Ruth, and their friend Karen.

We have decided to form Team Ciera! We are running a team relay at the Vermont City Marathon this year. I will be leading off and running a 5K. Then, the real runners take over :-)

I had big plans on running a marathon to raise money for our trip to the Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorder Family Conference this July in Florida. Though I am not running a full marathon, I thought of another way to keep things interesting (And this ties into the video at the top of this post):

Our conference fees for the family will run about $475. I can accept donations in person, of course. Also, you can donate directly to me here: (any donations above our conference fees will go directly to the GFPD):

Or, if you would like to donate to the GFPD itself, you can do so in Ciera's name (to help be sure it goes towards our expenses) by adding special instructions just before you finish the donation, or just make a general donation to the cause itself, which would be wonderful!

At any rate, please let me know by phone,e-mail, facebook, this blog, or whatever, that you made a donation for Team Ciera. I will check with the GFPD shortly before the race to see what donations have been made in her name.

And this is where it gets interesting, hopefully:

If I get enough donations (total, including to GFPD) to cover our conference fees, I will provide all of us with 30 seconds or more of ME in video, doing the LMFAO shuffle to the song "Party Rock Anthem" (Please, if you haven't looked at the video yet, do it now. The shuffle starts at about the 3:30 mark). To be sure, I DON'T want to do this, which is what makes it interesting. Yes, I'll put it on Youtube and Facebook!

EVEN BETTER!

If the total donations top $1000, I will do the dance in a very public setting, to be decided by all of us! Some thoughts are - at the starting line or finish line of the race, at a school auditorium, at the mall (as long as I won't get arrested, I'm all for it). My best idea, if I can make it work, is 7th inning at a Vermont Lake Monsters minor league baseball game this year. Believe me, I have ideas to make this truly entertaining!!!!

So donate early and often, and send this blog to everyone you know. My total embarrassment has to be worth something, right?

Also, I will try to come up with some Team Ciera items for sale. Any money above costs for these items will go towards out conference expenses, and then to the GFPD if there is extra.

Stay tuned!

  1. Your $37 share of the entry fee is our contribution into the fund.

How much to make sure we DON'T have to see you dance?
